1. The Governorate’s National day:
22nd January is the national day according to the great battle of Shedwan in 1970, where the Israeli forces tried to attack the Shedwan Island during the Attrition war.
2. Location and area:
Red sea governorate is located to the north of El-Suez governorate, to be bordered by the red sea from the east, and from the west by the following governorates: Aswan – Qena – Sohag – Asyut – Beni-suef and Al-Minya. Its south part borders with Sudan.

Its area is 203,685 km and it has a 1080 km2 – long beach from the east by the Red Sea.
3.Population:
Red sea governorate’s population is 376,262.

Why does it have a strategic importance?
As it extends on the Red Sea coast to the Nile valley, which gives it a strategic importance for Egypt’s national security and considered to be an outlet for exports and imports for Upper Egypt governorates and a sea port for its pilgrims.
