Gold Mining

Don’t look at jewels as it is only an ornament, but behind every piece, a lot of effort exerted beginning with exploration till it reaches you and it's better for you to watch it yourself.

"Sukari" a mountain of gold

Some people think that “Sukari” is derived from the Arabic word which means “sweet”, this is due to the similarity of quartz to sugar. In a beautiful spot of Egypt, Red Sea Governorate which is known for its richness in natural resources, “Sukari” gold mine is located in the south-east region of the Eastern desert, 30 kilometers away from Marsa Alam city.

Sukari mine throughout the ages

The mining process at the “Sukari” mine began at the time of the Pharaohs in 3900 before common era and continued till it was under control by the Pharaonic company that is owned by the Egyptian geologist, Samer Rebhy. A partnership started with the Mineral Resources Authority and Centamin company. The first alloy was produced in 2010.

Stages of gold extraction & production

There are several stages for the gold to reache its final form beginning with exploration of gold till alloy casting. Samples are being put in the soil and when they are taken out, they are taken to the lab to know the amount of gold found in the soil. Then they dig wells in order to place the explosives. After separating the gold from rocks, the gold is being poured into gold bars. Moving to the production, the gold goes through 2 primary crushers then the secondary crusher and after it is done, the rocks are being moved by a conveyor to the factory to be treated.

“Shadwan” island is located between Hurghada and el-Gouna, and it is 30 miles from Sharm El sheikh. It is the largest island in the Red sea, its area is 16 kilometers and it was used to be called "Shaker" island. The “Shadwan battle” occurred during the attrition war, when the Israeli troops occupied the island which lasted for 36 hours. Fishermen, families and their children defended the island against the enemy, until the island was liberated thanks to the courage and fighting spirit of the Egyptians.

This beautiful island is well-known for underwater diving, snorkeling and fishing. Also here we can see the lighthouse of the island and the earthquakes seismological network station, which was opened after the great earthquake that occurred in 1969. You can notice here the uncountable rocks in the island and the ground cracks in front of you which were caused by this earthquake.

Let’s move to the northeastern side of the island. Now we are showing to you the beautiful coral walls with more than 40 metre- height. They are so colorful and attractive which make you feel you want to touch them. Actually we cannot skip talking about the fresh air here and the calmness in the place where you hear nothing except the sea waves and the air.

Safaga

The kind of magic you didn't know existed until you experience it

Therapeutic tourism is as important as any other element of tourism. Thousands of tourists visit destinations like Safaga and Marsa Alam seeking physical therapy, and even better, a natural one. After a long, hectic day of exploring various parts of the Red Sea Governorate, there is no better way to rest than trying out the famous climatotherapy of Safaga. Safaga has this kind of magic that you didn't know existed until you experienced it.

The moment I arrived there; I was completely blown away by the scenery. I closed my eyes, and felt the sun against my skin, salty wind in my hair, warm black sand beneath my feet and crystal blue water surrounding me. Almost everywhere you step you can see someone buried under it with their heads popping out, enjoying the sea in front of them.

A smiling man, who from the white uniform looked like he worked, there offered to get me started but I said, "Thanks but I don't think I need to", "You think you don't until you try it" he replied. There was something attractive about being pinned to the earth in order to heal. I felt a strong urge to be absorbed by my surroundings, I felt the need to be taken care of, solely by the universe, without any external help. So, I nodded towards the ground and got myself buried under the black sand just like everyone, and I let the nature hug me for quite some time. At that moment, I became one with nature; as if we were made of the same thing, and I could feel myself slowly dissolving into the sand and sending my healing powers to other people too. It was one of the most soothing, physically and mentally healing experiences I've ever been through. It was something that united us all, no matter how different we were.

No matter how we get carried away by technology, or by advanced ways of physical therapy, nothing can ever compete with nature. Nature is a gift from God, an essential part of our wellbeing, a never-ending source of therapy that we will always crawl back to in times of need. It's always important not to forget to go back to where we belong.
